StreetButterfield StreetSuburbThornleighDetailsNamed after Edward and Gladys Butterfield who settled on a track going through the land in 1901 and established a poultry farm on the site. In 1906, when local councils were created, the land was virtually on the border of two council areas namely Hornsby and Kuring-gai. Neither council could agree on a name as one opted for King Street, the other insisted the track should be named Hearst Street. After the death of Edward Butterfield and the boundaries were firmly in place Hornsby Council approachedthe family and requested permission for the street to be named Butterfield Street.
