StreetPaling StreetSuburbThornleighDetailsPaling Street is named after William Paling of piano and music store fame. By 1884 Paling owned 100 acres along Pennant Hills Road but sold some to the Haymarket Permanent Land Building Company for subdivision. He immigrated to Australia from Holland in 1853 and was naturalised six years later. He built his new house “Pomona” in 1886 and it was used by the Palings as a holiday home. A manager lived on the estate and cared for the orchard and the poultry farm. The house is still standing today.
The local paper was delighted to record the coming of the quiet successful businessman to Thornleigh at the time.Source'An A-Z of Thornleigh including Westleigh: Then and Now' (2019) The Research Committee Hornsby Shire Historical Society Inc. p.127Map[1]
