Identifiernot specifiedDateNovember 1965PhotographerRobert WheatleyDescriptionIn 1885 William Pollard opened his butcher's shop in Thornleigh and a slaughter yard in the valley west of the railway station where the former zig-zag railway crossed the flat. He regularly purchased cattle and sheep at Homebush stock sales and drove them to Meadowbank, across the river by the punt and on to Thornleigh. After completing the building of his shop he turned his attention to building his house Epsom next door.

In 1967 a young funeral director Ken Meyer, together with his wife Merle, came to Thornleigh from Melbourne to establish the funeral home and chapel on a corner site at 301 Pennant Hills Road, Thornleigh. The chosen site was formerly that of Pollard's Butchery. The Meyers continued with the funeral home until their retirement in 1995 when Julie and Peter Newton took over. The premises were in the news for the wrong reason when a 40m wall collapsed on 31 October 2006 and two hearses and two cars belonging to Albert & Meyer were destroyed and considerable damage was done to the roof of the building.Physical FormatThornleigh
