It was the court on which members of the Church of England Club played social games. The Howe family was a very talented tennis family. Robert (Bob) Howe, a Sydney teacher, went on to win the mixed doubles at Wimbledon in 1960. He was the first Australian to compete and was seeded as a foreign entrant in the US National Indoors Tennis Championships held in 1956.
