DetailsAlfred Hoy, a city financier, purchased nine lots of land in Pennant Hills in 1902 and 1903. Three of these blocks comprising of eight- and three-quarter acres, faced The Esplanade and was the land on which The Maze was built in 1904.
From 1921 to 1924 Hoy sold some of the land for housing. On his death in 1926, the property passed jointly too his son Edgar and an estate agent of Bondi, Cecil Oliver. They sold Thee Maze to Dr Richard Cuthbert Geeves in 1927. Dr Geeves lived and practiced there for many years, with his surgery being one enclosed end of the side verandah. The Maze stands at the top of a long and gradual slope up Yarrara Road, with the crest of the slope outside the house becoming known locally as 'Geeves Hill'.
